Details: This coffee comes from family-owned farms organized through Cooperativa del Sur del Cauca (COSURCA). The umbrella cooperative works with 11 community cooperatives across 10 municipalities in Colombia's Cauca department, allowing small producers to combine their harvests while retaining regional traceability.
Coffee is fully washed and sun dried at origin before moving through COSURCA's centrally located dry mill and cupping laboratory. There, lots are received, prepared, evaluated and selected for export, creating a consistent regional offering from many family farms.
COSURCA's work extends well beyond marketing coffee. The cooperative provides financing, training and technical assistance designed to improve coffee quality, farm management and long-term producer stability.
Its community programs support education, household improvements and additional sources of income. These projects include a facility that turns fruit grown by coffee-producing families into juice for the national market, as well as a healthy-kitchen program that helps fund safer kitchen renovations in members' homes.
