TCR Clean Coffee Project: Lab Tested Coffee

Introducing the Clean Coffee Project

At Temecula Coffee Roasters, we love great coffee that's pure, delicious, and responsibly sourced.  But we also know that not all coffee is created equal, and some can contain unwanted contaminants such as mycotoxins, mold, yeast, and heavy metals. That’s exactly why we decided to launch our Clean Coffee Project, to give you complete confidence in what’s in your cup of coffee. ALL of the coffee we offer is produced in a way to ensure that it is mold and mycotoxin free. We do spot testing to ensure that our process works and this lot came out particularly clean and is heavy metal and glyphosate free so we decided to brag about it.

Why We Started the Clean Coffee Project

We’re all about going the extra mile to ensure the best quality coffee. So, we sent our Fairtrade® Peru - Medium Roast to Eurofins Food and Chemistry Testing US, Inc., a respected independent lab, to check for anything that shouldn’t be in your coffee. The results? See for yourself and sip with peace of mind.

Good Farming Practices for High-Quality Coffee

High-quality coffee starts at the farm, where responsible practices help ensure clean and flavorful beans. Farmers use organic compost and natural pest deterrents instead of synthetic chemicals to maintain soil health. Farmers also use a method known as shade-grown coffee. This not only enhances biodiversity but also slows bean maturation, leading to richer flavors. Proper post-harvest processing, such as thorough washing and controlled fermentation, helps prevent mold and mycotoxin development. By working with skilled farmers who prioritize sustainability, we ensure that every bean is grown with care, supporting both the environment and responsible sourcing practices.

Considerations When Choosing Clean Coffee

Drinking clean coffee isn’t just about great taste—it’s also about making informed choices. By selecting coffee that has been tested for contaminants, you can reduce exposure to unwanted substances often found in food products. While coffee naturally contains beneficial compounds like antioxidants, the absence of certain contaminants ensures a more consistent and high-quality product. Choosing coffee from transparent sources allows you to enjoy its natural flavors with confidence.

Breaking Down the Lab Results

We know lab reports can be confusing, so here’s a quick rundown on some of the information you saw in the link above:

  • Yeast & Mold: These are naturally present in the environment, but we test to ensure they stay within safe limits.
  • Heavy Metals: Lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury levels are well below regulatory limits.
  • Pesticides & Herbicides: None detected—because we wouldn’t want them in our coffee either!
  • Roasting Process: Our roasting process acts as a natural “kill step,” reducing any remaining microbial risks.

Our Commitment to Transparency

Our ultimate goal is to test all of our coffees to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and quality. However, comprehensive lab testing is an expensive process, and as a small, specialty coffee roaster, it takes time to implement on a larger scale. That said, we are committed to expanding our Clean Coffee Project as we grow, continuing to prioritize transparency, safety, and excellence in every batch we roast. However, you can still ensure that all our coffee is specialty grade in our pursuit to offer nothing but the best.

With the Clean Coffee Project, we’re not just saying our coffee is clean—we’re proving it. We believe in radical transparency, so we have shared our lab results publicly.
